SUMMARY:DPHS Roundtables: Heat\, Tropical Cyclones\, and Health Risk
DESCRIPTION:Event Series \nDPHS Roundtables \n\n \n\nAbout This Event\nEvidence and Resilience in a Changing Climate \nExtreme heat and tropical cyclones are not distant threats — they are defining features of life in South Florida and across many vulnerable regions worldwide. How do we accurately measure their health impacts\, and how can better data inform more resilient communities? \nThis Roundtable features two postdoctoral scholars advancing the science of climate-related health risk. Dr. Qinqin Kong will present a novel framework integrating human biophysics\, climate modeling\, and population health data to recalibrate humidity’s role in heat risk prediction. Dr. Zetianyu Wang will examine how tropical cyclones and flooding affect infant mortality in low- and middle-income countries using newly developed high-resolution geospatial disaster datasets. \nAn interdisciplinary panel including UM experts in climate science\, resilience policy\, and disaster public health will translate these findings to the South Florida context — where extreme heat and tropical cyclone exposure are annual realities — and explore implications for adaptation\, equity\, and public health preparedness. \nJoin us for an interactive discussion on advancing precision in climate-health research and strengthening resilient public health systems locally and globally. \nLunch will be provided following the event. \n\n \n\nSpeakers & Panelists\n\nHOSTS \nDr. Lin Zhu \nDr. Farren Briggs \nSPEAKERS \nDr. Qinqin Kong\, Stanford University \nDr. Zetianyu Wang\, University of Southern California \nPANELISTS \nDr. Amy Clement\, Professor\, UM Rosenstiel School of Marine\, Atmospheric\, and Earth Science \nDr. James Shultz\, Associate Professor\, UM Department of Public Health Sciences\, Division of Epidemiology & Population Health \nJennifer Posner\, Director\, UM Climate Resilience Institute \n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Boundary Crossing Partnerships Drive Translational Progress: A Video Presentation and Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:📅 Tuesday\, April 7\, 2026\n🕐 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM\n📍 Don Soffer Clinical Research Center\, Suite 710\nRSVP Now\n\n \n\nYou’re Invited \nBoundary Crossing Partnerships Drive Translational Progress: A Video Presentation and Panel Discussion \n\n \n\n \n\nFirefighter Cancer Initiative \nJoin us for the video premiere of a new CTSI Translational Science Case Study: Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI). This is the first in a series of case study video modules that utilizes the Sylvester FCI to demonstrate how the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Translational Science Principles have been applied to advance an interdisciplinary translational research project to address excess cancer risk and outcome in first responders. \nThe module focuses on the boundary crossing partnerships that enabled a simulated electric vehicle fire that was staged to study its health and environmental consequences. Immediately following the video premiere\, there will be a panel of FCI stakeholders to discuss the project\, including members of the fire service and researchers from numerous disciplines across the University of Miami. \n\n\n\n🍽️ Lunch will be served. \n\n\n\n \n\nAbout This Event\nJoin us for an opportunity to: \n\n\nUnderstand how NCATS Translational Science Principles are applied in practice through the Firefighter Cancer Initiative \n\n\nRecognize the role of boundary‑crossing partnerships in advancing interdisciplinary translational research \n\n\nGain insight into the design and impact of collaborative translational research \n\n\n\n \n\nVenue\n\nMiami CTSI Training Center \nDon Soffer Clinical Research Center \nSuite 710 \n1120 NW 14th St.\nMiami\, FL 33136 \n📍 View on Google Maps \n\n\n \n\nContact Information\n\nOrganizer \nMiami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) \nctsiservices@med.miami.edu \n\n\n \n\nEvent Category\nMiami Clinical and Translational Science Institute \n\n \n\nBoundary Crossing Partnerships Drive Translational Progress:\nA Video Presentation and Panel Discussion \nTuesday\, April 7\, 2026 · 12:30 – 1:30 PM \nRSVP Now
