Lombard\, MD\, PhD\nProfessor and Vice Chair\, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine\nSylvester Comprehensive Cancer \nDr. David Lombard received his MD from Harvard Medical School\, and his PhD at MIT\, where he studied Werner syndrome and related premature aging diseases. After Anatomic Pathology residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston\, Dr. Lombard pursued postdoctoral work in the area of the biology of sirtuins – cellular enzymes involved in metabolism\, cancer\, and aging – supported by an NIH K08 award. Dr. Lombard was the first to describe a central role for the sirtuin SIRT3 in regulating the mitochondria\, the powerhouses of the cell. He set up his first independent lab at the University of Michigan in 2008\, where he rose to the rank of tenured Associate Professor\, and directed the NCI T32-supported Cancer Biology Ph.D. program. He was named an elected member of The American Society for Clinical Investigation\, a New Scholar in Aging of the Ellison Medical Foundation\, a Scholar-Innovator of the Harrington Discovery Institute\, and a recipient of an AACR Innovation and Discovery award. King and Batra DESCRIPTION:Traci King\, MD and Akshee Batra\, MD\nFellow\, Hematology and Oncology\nUniversity of Miami \nDr. Traci King grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Duke University for undergraduate studies\, where she studied psychology and chemistry. After college\, she worked for some time as a special education teacher before going to medical school. She then attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia for her MD before doing an internal medicine residency in Boston at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She is currently a third-year hematology and oncology fellow here at UM and where she is focusing on breast medical oncology and survivorship care. \nDr. Akshee Batra is a second-year Hematology and Oncology fellow at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center\, University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center\, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Harriet P. Dustan M.D. Award for research. Her academic interests include sarcoma\, precision oncology\, and clinical outcomes research.
