His research focuses on understanding intelligence in brains and machines. He has made contributions to the theory of AI and deep learning and pioneered applications of AI to address problems in physics\, chemistry\, and biomedicine\, including detection of exotic particles in physics\, prediction of protein structures and chemical reactions in biochemistry\, and analysis of genomes and images in biomedicine. He also is working on addressing societal challenges posed by AI. His honors include the 2027 IEEE Neural Networks Pioneer Award. He has co-founded startup companies and published ~400 journal articles and five books. \n \n \n\n \n\nAbout the Lecture\nAI today can pass the Turing test and is in the process of transforming science\, technology\, society\, humans\, and beyond. Surprisingly modern AI is built out of two very simple and old ideas\, rebranded as deep learning: neural networks and gradient descent learning. \nI will describe several applications of AI to problems in biomedicine developed in my laboratory\, from the molecular level to the patient level using omics data\, imaging data\, clinical data\, and beyond. Examples include the analysis of circadian rhythms in gene expression data\, the identification of polyps in colonoscopies\, and the prediction of negative post-operative outcomes. \nI will discuss the opportunities and challenges for developing\, integrating\, and deploying AI in the first AI-driven hospitals of the future and present two frameworks for addressing some of the most pressing societal issues related to AI research. \n\n \n\nHow to Join\n\n\n📍 In-Person \nSylvester Support Services BuildingAuditorium Room 110Miami\, FL 33136 \n \n\n💻 Virtual \nJoin via Zoom Webinar \n Register for Webinar\n \n \n\n \n\nVenue\n\nSylvester Support Services Building \nRoom: Auditorium Room 110 \nUniversity of Miami Miller School of MedicineMiami\, FL 33136 \n \n\n \n\nHosted By \nSylvester Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) · Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

To register for a workshop\, contact Dr. Daniel Bilbao at cmsr@med.miami.edu. \n\n \n\nAbout the Seminar\nThe high-resolution FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo 3100 Ultrasound Imaging System can transform and expand preclinical cancer research. Specifically designed for non-invasive small animal imaging\, the Vevo 3100 is optimized for use in mouse and rat models and provides a range of high-resolution imaging capabilities to support cancer research and therapeutic studies. \nThis seminar will highlight the use of ultrasound-guided injection of cancer cell suspensions into target organs to establish orthotopic tumor models with high accuracy and reproducibility. The Vevo enables 2D detection and 3D sizing of solid tumors to monitor tumor development\, growth\, and treatment response longitudinally. Power Doppler and microbubble contrast imaging can evaluate tumor blood flow and vascularity\, providing insights into tumor angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. \nBeyond oncology\, Vevo imaging can support a broad range of preclinical applications\, including cardiovascular research\, liver disease models\, brain imaging\, developmental biology\, and nephrology. The Vevo system also can be used for cardiotoxicity assessment of therapeutic compounds\, including evaluation of cardiac function following treatment with chemotherapeutic agents such as anthracyclines (e.g.\, doxorubicin). \nThe Sylvester Cancer Modeling Shared Resource (CMSR) has a Vevo 3100 to support your research. Following the seminar\, the CMSR will host two workshops that will provide hands-on training with the Vevo 3100 system. This seminar and hands-on training will demonstrate how the Vevo 3100 can enhance experimental precision\, improve data reproducibility\, and accelerate translational discoveries. \n\n \n\nHow to Register\n\n\n🎤 Seminar Registration \nSelect in-person or virtual attendance when registering. \nRegister for Seminar \n\n\n🔬 Workshop Registration \nSpace is limited. DESCRIPTION:Aristeidis G. Telonis\, PhD\nResearch Assistant Professor\nBiochemistry and Molecular Biology\nUniversity of Miami \nAristeidis G. Telonis\, PhD\, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. His research combines computational biology\, genomics\, and systems-level approaches to study how retrotransposons and other repetitive elements shape gene regulation\, cellular identity\, and disease biology. His lab investigates how these genomic elements respond to environmental stress\, aging\, and therapy\, and how their dysregulation may contribute to cancer and other human diseases. Dr. Telonis’ work integrates high-throughput sequencing\, bioinformatics\, machine learning (AI)\, and molecular data analysis to uncover hidden layers of genome regulation with potential relevance to diagnosis\, prognosis\, and therapeutic response. \nJOIN HERE!\nDr. Telonis’ objectives: \n\nDescribe the expression\, epigenetic and splicing profiles characteristic of IDH2/SRSF2 mutations\nDescribe the relationship of the epigenome with RNA splicing\nExplain how the co-occurance of IDH2 and SRSF2 mutations increases leukemia aggressiveness\n\nFaculty Disclosure\nDr. Telonis has indicated he doesn’t have relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies. \nPlanning Committee Disclosure\nDr. Lekakis has indicated that he has no relevant financial relationships with commercial interests. \nTarget Audience\nFaculty\, Primary Care Physicians\, APRNs\, PharmD \nAccreditation\nThe University of Miami Leonard M.
