SUMMARY:Intro. of Dimensionality Reduction
DESCRIPTION:TianHao Liu\nPh.D. Candidate\, Biostatistician\nDept: Public Health Sciences\nDiv: Biostatistics\nCollaboration and Consulting Core (BCCC) \nIt is common to meet high-dimensional data in modern data analysis. The higher dimensionality can dramatically degrade the performance of machine learning algorithm\, which is known as the “curse of dimensionality”. Therefore\, many dimensionality reduction techniques are developed to tackle the problem. \nWe divide these techniques into feature selection and feature extraction methods and introduce some examples in each class. Methods like LASSO\, PCA\, LDA\, LLE and Autoencoder are mentioned. The presentation aims to give the audience a taste to those most commonly used dimensionality reduction methods. \nRSVP Today! \n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Any questions\, please contact Maria Jimenez-Rodriguez. \n\n

SUMMARY:Intellectual Property Considerations with Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Paul Tanpitukpongse\nPrincipat\, Meunier Carlin & Curfman \nArtificial intelligence is rapidly impacting the way the world operates. A wide range of industries are being revolutionized by the output of A.I.\, including sciences\, visual arts\, business\, finance\, music\, literature\, programming\, computer vision\, and many more. How does the use of A.I. impact your ability to protect new innovations? \nRegister today! \nPaul is a patent attorney with broad technical experience across a number of industries\, including artificial intelligence\, computer networking\, medical instruments and diagnostics\, clean and renewable energy\, technologies\, and consumer products. His legal practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications for a broad set of technologies in electrical engineering\, computer science\, and biomedical engineering. \nPaul also counsels companies ranging from start-ups to large multinational corporations and academic institutions on patent portfolio management and strategies\, as well as other intellectual property needs. Additionally\, Paul prepares opinions on a wide variety of IP issues\, such as freedom-to-operate\, validity\, and infringement matters\, as well as counseling clients on patentability issues. \nRepresentative technology areas of his practice span software and hardware areas\, including neural networks and algorithms\, data analytics\, cloud computing\, internet-of-things platforms\, software and network virtualization\, speech recognition\, image-and-signal processing\, medical imaging systems\, MEMS devices\, metrology systems\, networking devices\, data storage\, 3D printing\, robotics\, semiconductors\, networks\, switches\, energy management systems\, and thermal management systems\, among others. \nPaul brings over seven years of industrial research and development experience to his legal practice. He was an electrical engineer and project leader at General Electric – Global Research Center\, where he led a research team to develop residential energy control technologies as part of GE’s SmartGrid Initiative.
