SUMMARY:Medical Education Journal Club: Enhancing Auditory Physiology
DESCRIPTION:MEDICAL EDUCATION JOURNAL CLUB \nEnhancing auditory physiology: simulating unilateral conduction defects to improve understanding of Rinne’s and Weber’s tests \n \nPresented by Dr Hilary Steele\, AuD\, CH-AP \nDirector\, Quality and Safety | Division of Audiology \nAssistant Professor\, Department of Otolaryngology \nUniversity of Miami Miller School of Medicine \n  \nThe Medical Education Journal Club aims to increase faculty’s exposure to rapidly evolving literature in medical education within UME\, GME and CME. By showcasing a blend of articles on a wide range of topics using a variety of methodologies\, we will show our faculty the type of medical education scholarship that can be done\, and how to appraise articles through formal education rubrics.

SUMMARY:Applications of High-Resolution Ultrasound Imaging in Mouse Models for Cancer Research: The VisualSonics Vevo Imaging System
DESCRIPTION:Advanced Biomedical Technology Seminar Series \nApplications of High-Resolution Ultrasound Imaging in Mouse Models for Cancer Research:\nThe VisualSonics Vevo Imaging System \nThursday\, August 20\, 2026 \n\n \n\n\nDate \nAugust 20\, 2026 \n\n\nSeminar \n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM\nHybrid (In-Person & Virtual) \n\n\nWorkshops \n1:00 PM – 3:00 PM\nIn-Person Only \n\n\n \nRegister for Seminar\n \n\nFeatured Speaker\n\nNuno Sacadura\, M.S. \nSales Manager\nFUJIFILM VisualSonics\, Inc. \n\n\n \n\nSchedule\n\n \n\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM \nSeminar (In-Person & Live Streaming) \n📍 GCRB 402 · Griffin Cancer Research Building\, 4th Floor Conference Room \n\n \n\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM \nHands-On Workshop #1 (In-Person Only) \n📍 GCRB 11th Floor · Cancer Modeling Shared Resource \n\n \n\n2:00 PM – 3:00 PM \nHands-On Workshop #2 (In-Person Only) \n📍 GCRB 11th Floor · Cancer Modeling Shared Resource \n\n\n\n \n\n🍽️ Lunch will be provided for seminar in-person attendees. \nWorkshop space is limited. To register for a workshop\, contact Dr. Daniel Bilbao at cmsr@med.miami.edu. \n\n \n\nAbout the Seminar\nThe high-resolution FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo 3100 Ultrasound Imaging System can transform and expand preclinical cancer research. Specifically designed for non-invasive small animal imaging\, the Vevo 3100 is optimized for use in mouse and rat models and provides a range of high-resolution imaging capabilities to support cancer research and therapeutic studies. \nThis seminar will highlight the use of ultrasound-guided injection of cancer cell suspensions into target organs to establish orthotopic tumor models with high accuracy and reproducibility. The Vevo enables 2D detection and 3D sizing of solid tumors to monitor tumor development\, growth\, and treatment response longitudinally. Power Doppler and microbubble contrast imaging can evaluate tumor blood flow and vascularity\, providing insights into tumor angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. \nBeyond oncology\, Vevo imaging can support a broad range of preclinical applications\, including cardiovascular research\, liver disease models\, brain imaging\, developmental biology\, and nephrology. The Vevo system also can be used for cardiotoxicity assessment of therapeutic compounds\, including evaluation of cardiac function following treatment with chemotherapeutic agents such as anthracyclines (e.g.\, doxorubicin). \nThe Sylvester Cancer Modeling Shared Resource (CMSR) has a Vevo 3100 to support your research. Following the seminar\, the CMSR will host two workshops that will provide hands-on training with the Vevo 3100 system. This seminar and hands-on training will demonstrate how the Vevo 3100 can enhance experimental precision\, improve data reproducibility\, and accelerate translational discoveries. \n\n \n\nHow to Register\n\n\n🎤 Seminar Registration \nSelect in-person or virtual attendance when registering. \nRegister for Seminar \n\n\n🔬 Workshop Registration \nSpace is limited.
