Samuel A. Kareff, MD, MPH, is a Chief Fellow of the Hematology/Medical Oncology training program at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital. As a South Florida native, Dr. Kareff has been serving and researching his home patient population since graduating from the University of Miller School of Medicine’s dual MD/MPH program in 2018. He plans to specialize in the care of solid tumors, namely, thoracic oncology, upon completion of his fellowship.

Priscila Barreto Coelho, MD, is a Hematology and Medical Oncology fellow at the Jackson Memorial Hospital and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) at the University of Miami Health System. Her focus on research and training is breast cancer, especially the etiology of breast cancer in genetically high-risk germline mutation carriers, the disparities involved in this disease, and the use of targeted therapies in cancer treatment. She is a member of the women’s cancer research working group in the African Caribbean Cancer Consortium (AC3) and the Sarcoma Interest Group (SIG) at the University of Miami. She has been involved in research demonstrating the disparities in the presentation and outcomes of breast cancer in the population of South Florida and the Caribbean and the use of targeted therapies to treat specific types of sarcomas. She is involved in research that focuses on the study of breast cancers in women from South Florida and the Caribbean, evaluating the impact of deleterious variants in genes that characterize the hereditary cancer syndromes and the impact of immigration and lifestyle changes on the development and outcomes of breast cancer in Black women for which she was granted a 2023 ASCO YIA.

Objectives:

1.Demonstrate the value of glioma classification
2.Explain the role of molecular characterization in glioma.
3.Assess the role of novel targeted therapeutics for glioma.
4.Analyze a specific case with the healthcare system, identifying critical factors that led to complications and exploring preventive measures that could have been implemented.
5.Delve into current guidelines within the field of oncology pertaining to the reactivations of tuberculosis in patients undergoing chemotherapy, with a focus on understanding protocols, preventative measures, and management strategies.
6.Create actionable strategies for enhancing the care of oncologic patients in regions with high prevalence of tuberculosis by synthesizing insights from current practices and exploring innovative approaches to improve patient outcomes and mitigate the risk of tuberculosis reactivation.
