Jair Munoz Mendoza, MD
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine

Dr. Munoz Mendoza received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He completed internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, and fellowship in Nephrology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. After finishing fellowship, he joined the faculty at the University of Miami, Katz Family Division of Nephrology and Hypertension in 2011.  Dr. Munoz Mendoza is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. He is the medical director of DaVita Miami Campus, our main outpatient dialysis unit, and has a research interest in the relationships between the non-neoplastic histopathological features and kidney function in patients undergoing nephrectomy and cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Sangeetha Venugopal, MD
Assistant Professor of Clinical

Dr. Venugopal completed her medical education in India followed by internal medicine residency at the Montefiore Medical Center New York and Hematology Oncology Fellowship at the Tisch Cancer Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Additionally, she did an advanced Leukemia Fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Texas and a Masters in clinical research at the GWU, Washington DC. She is keenly interested in myeloid malignancy clinical research and in particular early phase clinical development of novel and rationally targeted therapies.

Dr. Munoz Mendoza’s OBJECTIVES:

  • Explain the effects of SGL2i on patients with CKD: EMPA-Kidney Study
  • Examine the role of GLP1-ra in patients with diabetic kidney disease
  • Analyze the role of thiazides on the management of hypertension in advanced CKD: CLICK study

Dr. Venugopal’s OBJECTIVES:

  • Analyze the evolution of clonal cytopenia of undetermined significance (CCUS) to MDS
  • Classify MDS into appropriate prognostic subgroups for risk adapted therapy
  • Determine the most appropriate treatment strategy based on risk stratification
