James B. Dale, MD is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He previously served as the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases for more than 30 years. He achieved a national and international reputation for research on group A streptococcal infections. Dr. Dale has received continuous U.S. federal research funding for more than 40 years and has devoted his entire research career to the study of the pathogenesis of group A streptococcal infections and the design, development, and clinical testing of streptococcal vaccines. Dr. Dale and Dr. Bisno were long-time colleagues, collaborators, and friends who shared a passion for understanding the pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of group A streptococcal infections, rheumatic fever, and rheumatic heart disease.
