Dr. Cabeza Rivera obtained his medical degree in Peru, at Cayetano Heredia University, to later join the Jackson Memorial Hospital Residency Program as a part of the Harrington Program. His fellowship training in Nephrology was completed at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by Geriatric Medicine and Transplant Nephrology fellowships at the University of Miami.  He started his academic career at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he served as the Medical Director of their Living Kidney Donor Program and joined the University of Miami Division of Nephrology in 2021 to be part of the Miami Transplant Institute Team.

Cody Adkinson, MD

Cody Adkinson is an Interventional Pulmonologist in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is a graduate of Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami at Holy Cross Hospital and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He went on to complete a sub-specialty fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and has been faculty at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 2022. He is the Director of Interventional Pulmonology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Director of Bronchoscopy Simulation, and also teaches Internal Medicine residents on the inpatient procedure team.

OBJECTIVES:

Dr. Cabeza Rivera’s Presentation:

  • Identify common causes of kidney allograft dysfunction and failure

Dr. Cody Adkinson’s Presentation

  • Recognize the sound of stridor and its implications
  • Identify physiologic and pathologic auscultation of the lungs
  • Illustrate the physiology behind flow-volume loops in pulmonary function testing and their role in identification of airway pathology
