Explore the potential of synthetic biology to improve healthcare, including the development of living therapeutics for infections and complex diseases, the application of cell-free synthetic biology for global health needs and the translation of these innovations into accessible diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic strategies.

James J. Collins, Ph.D.

James J. Collins is the Termeer Professor of Medical Engineering & Science and Professor of Biological Engineering at MIT, and a pioneer in the field of synthetic biology. His research advances next-generation diagnostics, therapeutics, synthetic probiotics, and AI-driven approaches to antibiotic discovery. Dr. Collins is a recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Award and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and National Academy of Medicine.
