Dr. Thomas Platé is originally from Orlando, Florida. He attended New College of Florida in Sarasota, Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry in 2014 where he completed an undergraduate honor’s thesis titled “Probing Proteomes with Alternative Proteases: Lys-N & Arg-C”. He subsequently attended medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he obtained his Medical Degree in 2018. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami in 2021 and is currently in his final year of Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the same institution. Dr. Platé has published and presented research in a wide variety of topics in hematology including Cancer Associated Thrombosis, Thrombosis in COVID19, Richter’s syndrome, Genomics in ATLL, Erdheim Chester Disease, and PTCy in MMUD transplant recipients. Currently, his focus is in Cancer Associated Thrombosis with Dr. Gerald Soff and plans to pursue a career in classical hematology with a particular interest in malignant and inflammatory conditions affecting thrombosis and hemostasis.
Objectives:
1.Examine the existing science for cancer-associated thrombosis and interaction with immunotherapy.
2.Assess the current data on thrombosis in patients with cancer, including at our own institution
3.Propose a prospective study to demonstrate efficacy of factor Xa inhibitors in preventing venous thromboembolism and extending progression-free survival in patients receiving systemic therapy for lung cancer
